Saba Diving

Divers in the know have been keeping Saba a secret for many years, but now the word is out and Saba is fast becoming one of the Caribbean’s top diving destinations. Rising steeply from the deep blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, this tiny volcanic island is an eco-tourism paradise, whose beauty abounds both above and below the waterline. The incredibly clear, warm waters that surround the island have been protected by the Saba Marine Park since 1987 and are home to a prolific marine environment that features off-shore pinnacles and seamounts, encrusted with corals, to near-shore ridges and walls, where lava fingers and hot springs remind divers of the island’s volcanic past. Add to that an incredible array of colourful marine life and it’s easy to see why Saba is often listed amongst the Top 10 Places in the World to Dive!

Access to Saba’s 30+ dive sites is made available by the island’s professional dive centres – Saba Divers and Sea Saba – who all offer daily dive excursions for certified divers as well as a range of diver training courses. With Saba being such a small island, distances to the dive sites are relatively short, with boat journey times rarely more than 15-20 minutes. See below for more information about each of our selected diving partners.

Sea Saba

Since 1985 divers have been experiencing “the difference” when diving with Sea Saba. Committed to the highest standards of professionalism this PADI 5-Star Resort offers uncrowded boats, attentive service and a range of daily dive excursions and courses to make the most out of your underwater experience.

Dive Sites
The sheer diversity of Saba’s marine life makes every dive a unique experience. Sea Saba’s enthusiastic guides and instructors are waiting to share their passion with you and take you on a voyage of underwater exploration to some of the best dive sites in the world!

Most famous are Saba’s underwater pinnacles and sea mounts that rise from the depths to within 85ft (25m) of the surface. Deep water sites such as Third Encounter, Twilight Zone and Shark Shoals are home to giant sea fans and sponges and attract schools of jacks, groupers and often a number of shark species including Black Tips, Nurse and Caribbean Reef sharks; with the occasional sighting of less common species. But there’s more to diving Saba than just pinnacles. From vertical Tent Wall and the spurs and grooves of Ladder Bay, to the exposed reefs of the Windward side with their Elkhorn forests, varied fish species and outstanding visibility. Access to Saba dive sites is always by boat and Sea Saba’s vessels are perfectly designed for the task. Their two fuel-efficient 40ft Delta boats – Sea Dragon and Giant Stride – are capable of carrying up to 20 passengers but a limit of 10 individual divers with 2 instructors is maintained to ensure your comfort. Fully equipped they feature plenty of sun or shade, ample seating, gear storage and a fresh water shower as well as all necessary safety communication and safety equipment.

Dive Excursions
For certified divers Sea Saba offers full day and half day dive excursions to fit your vacation plans as well as night dives three times per week. From their convenient base at Lambee's Place, in the heart of Windwardside, taxis transport divers down to the Fort Bay harbour each morning. Although distances to the dive sites are relatively short (average 15-20 minutes), surface intervals are spent moored-up at a calm location before heading back to the harbour after the second dive. You’re then free to choose whether you dive again in the afternoon or spend some time exploring what Saba has to offer above the waterline.

Sea Saba recognises the needs of its certified divers and understands if you prefer not to dive with one of their guides; although many find that the guide’s knowledge and experience of the local marine environment adds even more pleasure to their dives. And, conditions permitting, they’ll try to show you as many different dive sites as possible, so you can experience the best that the Saba Marine Park has to offer.

Dive Training
Next to their daily dive excursions, Sea Saba also offers an extensive range of professional dive trainings courses from complete beginners, looking to take their first breaths underwater, up to the more experienced divers looking to enhance their skills or perhaps broaden their diving horizons with one of their distinctive eco-programs such as Eco-Immersion. With low instructor-to-student ratios they make learning to dive fun and easy.

With friendly staff, dependable equipment, and over 25 years’ experience in the region Sea Saba believes a great dive trip is more than just great diving. "Your passion is their passion"... let them share it with you!
